Delete your account
1. Deleting from the app
You can delete your Practiq account yourself, from the mobile app: open More → Settings → Legal & privacy → Delete my account, then confirm. Deletion is immediate and permanent.
2. What is deleted
- Your login and password.
- Your name, email address and profile photo.
- Your membership of every practice you belong to.
- Your notification devices, saved dashboard layout, personal prescribing defaults, and any calendar you had connected.
3. What is retained, and why
Patient records you authored — consultation notes, prescriptions, sick notes, referrals and invoices — remain with the practice you created them in. Two reasons:
- A practice is legally obliged to retain patient records. In South Africa that duty sits in the National Health Act, 2003 and the regulations under it; comparable duties apply in the other markets we operate in.
- Under POPIA the practice, not the individual practitioner, is the Responsible Party for those records. They are not yours to remove. See our POPIA notice.
Those records stop being linked to an account that can sign in. Our audit log also keeps an append-only record that the deletion happened, which is what lets us prove it was done.
4. If you own a practice
If you are the only owner of a practice, the app will ask you to make someone else an owner first, in Settings → Team. Deleting the last owner would leave a practice holding patient records with nobody able to administer it or answer a patient's own data request.
If the practice is closing down instead, email us and we will close the practice and your account together.
5. Requesting deletion by email
You can also ask us directly at hello@practiq.co.za. Send the request from the email address on the account. POPIA gives us 30 days to respond; in practice we action these far sooner.
6. Patients
If you are a patient rather than a practice user, your records are held by your practice, not by Practiq. Contact the practice directly — they are the Responsible Party and can action access, correction and deletion requests. We help them meet the 30-day deadline but we do not act on patient records ourselves.
